The project is designed to make a small but important reduction in the numbers of Street Homeless in East London. In our modern dynamic Economy this is a n appalling situation and all of us should be totally ashamed of the situation. Just pouring money at the problem, doesn’t seem to solve it. I believe what is needed is practical initiatives to start addressing the outlying reason, why the problem exists. It’s a combination of poor Government Policy over bureaucratic Local Councils, poor direction of Major Charities and a total ‘look the other way attitude of the public’. I suspect because apart from in a minor way homelessness doesn’t affect the Rich in our City, nothing gets done. Homelessness is an Industry, creating 1000s of jobs in Public Service and the Charity sector. But don’t forget some Street Homeless prefer the life and there are many complex reasons that people end up in the position. Some but not all, related to Drink and Drugs. But a loss of a job and family breakdown, something that could affect anybody, could be the reason.
Solve Street Homelessness NOW ( SSHN), will be different, working from experience, we will provide jobs, based on the real economy, paying London Living Wage ( currently £10.40 per hour). Providing secure and long term Housing, not dependant on Housing Benefit or Universal Credit. And provide the support and training needed to help ex-Homelessness become part of everyday society again. So when and if they move on, the have the skills and confidence to make a greater success of their lives.
Of course these cannot be achieved without some assistance. From the attached cash flow we are looking a start-up costs of £60K. The plan is to turn this into a surplus for reinvestment by the end of Year 2.For sources of funding we will be making application to the following organisations. Councils, Major Charities, specialist funders of Social Enterprises. The National Lottery. Corporate Sponsorship. We will also undertake our own Fundraising Activities.
